Chamber Scholarship
Purpose and Criteria
The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is intended to provide financial support and assistance to any high school senior that deserves assistance. The scholarship funds awarded is intended to be used by the recipient to cover expenses associated with higher education at an accredited institution.
The Scholarship recipient must be a senior in high school, and must be accepted to an accredited two- or four-year institution of higher learning (college or vocational school). The recipient must have a 2.5 or better Grade Point Average (GPA).
NOTE: Applications are limited to those high school seniors who are in the immediate family of either a current member of the Chamber OR a current member's employee. An immediate family member is someone who resides in the same household. Family members of the Chamber's current Board of Directors or Scholarship Committee members are ineligible to apply for the Scholarship.
Amount of Scholarship
The Chamber will award one $500 scholarship in any given year. The recipient will receive a scholarship award certificate on their high school's Senior Awards day and a scholarship check will be mailed to the institution in which the recipient is enrolled.
Required Documentation to Accompany Application
- Signed and completed Scholarship Application;
- Letters of recommendation from school counselor/teachers;
- Letters of recommendation from two (2) other sources;
- Official high school transcript;
- Short explanation of extracurricular activities and community service; and
- Two-page essay stating why they deserve the scholarship.
Please note that the Scholarship Application and all accompanying documentation will be kept strictly confidential. The completed package must be received by the Chamber NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, MAY 23rd. Packages may be hand-delivered to the Chamber during normal business hours (Monday-Wednesday-Friday 9:00am to 2:00pm) or submitted via regular mail so long as the package is postmarked by Friday, May 18th. Incomplete packages or those received after May 23rd will not be considered.
