Citizen of the Year
Rusty Small - 2011 Male Citizen of the Year
Rusty Small was nominated for the male Citizen of the Year award because HE is a very caring & giving individual who is continually looking for ways to help others in the Appomattox community where HE was born and raised. HE has shown a great love and interest for all those who live in the com
munity regardless of their social status, race, or religion. As Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, Rusty has spearheaded many activities that include food and entertainment for the entire community that are always free to the public and HE remains very humble concerning his involvement in these activities. The community would be at a loss for family-friendly activities if it weren't for the following events sponsored by Liberty Baptist Church: Super Snow Day Spectacular, Cloverhill Jamboree, Family Fest, Big Screen Movie, Walking Wallendas, Easter Helicopter Egg Drop Eggstravanganza, River Wild Water Park, and the 1865 Celebration. Rusty is also a huge contributor to this year's Christmas on Main Street with the Community of Candles event, with the featured attraction being a synthetic ice skating rink on Main Street. While spearheading the activities is quite a task to undertake, HE is also very hands-on with all tasks associated with these events for the express purpose of ensuring a successful community event.
With all that being said, Rusty Small certainly meets the eligibility criteria for the award. Remember to congratulate Rusty should you see him in and around town.
The citizen of the year received his award at the Chamber's annual membership dinner held on October 20, 2011 at the Falling River Country Club. Congratulations Rusty!!!
